Decision Regret
Is it really your soul calling for attention?
Have you ever made a decision and instantly regretted it? I think most of us have. Recently, in fact, for me!
In February I had the pleasure of recording two podcasts with my friend Amanda Hinkkanen of Where the Road Runs Out. We were talking about listening both to others, as well as ourselves. You can check the podcast out here.
During our conversation in preparing for the podcast, Amanda was sharing her progress with meditation and how it is part of her coaching certification program. As an ardent advocate for meditation, it brought such joy to my heart to hear she has been meditating regularly since October last year and to listen to her articulate the benefits.
Later that same day I opened an email from LotusWei which was highlighting an upcoming unique Chenrezig meditation retreat with monks. The event was being held in early April at their facility in Phoenix, AZ. My mind went immediately to Amanda and the little nudge in my chest said: Invite Amanda to go with you.
Acting on my intuition, I quickly forwarded the email to Amanda with a note asking if she wanted to join me.
Then I immediately had self-doubt. I wanted to “unsend” the email. I quietly wondered, did I really want to go. What if she says yes while you are doubting your desire to attend? I even secretly hoped she would not be able to go.
Amanda’s first note said she was interested but had to check a few things first and would get back to me.
I waited a full week for a further response, still wondering about my desire to go. Thankfully I had that time, for in the in between was when I realized there was a lesson here for me.
I trust my intuition. It does not fail me when I act upon it.
With this realization, my thoughts changed from fear and doubt about “having” to go and transitioned into curiosity. Why was my heart fluttering? What was behind my nervousness and second guessing?
As I contemplated these questions, I realized my soul was letting me know the trepidation I felt was an indicator this event was important for me. Like the nervousness before you jump off the cliff into the river below, my soul was whispering, “Pay attention. By following this intuition you are jumping into a new version of yourself.”
I believe these moments of decision regret often are indicators to pay attention. What is our soul trying to tell us in that moment?
The pattern of purchasing something to cover up our feeling of emptiness
The words we spoke in the all too familiar dance of a relationship which no longer serves us
A low deserve level pointing out you are truly worthy
The next time you feel that sensation of regret about a decision or choice you made, I encourage you to pause. Listen and pay attention to what your soul is pointing to. Can you find the lesson/pattern which is calling to you? With awareness can you choose curiosity to explore a new path?
Weekly Challenge:
Consider the last time you experienced decision regret. Reflect on what lesson or pattern your soul was pointing out to you.
P.S. Amanda accepted my invitation. We are headed to AZ later this week. I believe my soul knew I needed to invite Amanda, otherwise I would have come up with several excuses for not going. I am curious to discern what unfolding occurs…for both of us!
Look for a post to come in the weeks ahead as I integrate and articulate the transformation.
P.P.S. I find it intriguing I had recently written about a life OS Update. (posted March 30th) It is fun to follow the path of my soul and connect the markers along the journey of my life.
